JAPAN BUY SCOUT VERDICT

Akihabara for range, Nakano Broadway for used and rare figures.

  • Akihabara: The largest concentration of new releases, prize figures and multi-floor used shops in one walkable area.
  • Nakano Broadway: A covered mall packed with second-hand and collector shops, including several Mandarake branches.
  • Watch out: For used figures, check the box condition and whether all parts are included. Prices differ a lot between shops.
TAX-FREE NOTE

Japan's tax-free system changes on 1 November 2026

From 1 November 2026, visitors pay the full price including 10% consumption tax at the store. The tax is refunded after customs confirms at departure (airport or seaport) that the goods are leaving Japan, within 90 days of purchase. The minimum is ¥5,000 before tax per store. Refund methods and timing depend on the store, so ask at checkout and keep your receipts.
