Where to go
Store location, stock and whether a physical visit is worth it.
Buy from an official Leica Store or an authorized dealer. Discounts are rare, so tax-free is your main saving.
- Where: Leica Stores and boutiques in Tokyo (Ginza is the best known), the Leica Online Store, and authorized specialist dealers.
- Biggest saving: Japan's 10% consumption tax can be refunded to eligible visitors (see the tax-free note below), which matters on a camera at this price.
- Watch out: Stock of new Leica models can be limited. Call or check online before making the trip.
Japan's tax-free system changes on 1 November 2026
From 1 November 2026, visitors pay the full price including 10% consumption tax at the store. The tax is refunded after customs confirms at departure (airport or seaport) that the goods are leaving Japan, within 90 days of purchase. The minimum is ¥5,000 before tax per store. Refund methods and timing depend on the store, so ask at checkout and keep your receipts.
