Buy new from brand boutiques or authorized dealers; buy used from established specialist dealers.
- New: Seiko and Grand Seiko boutiques and authorized dealers, concentrated in Ginza.
- Used and vintage: Established used-watch dealers in Shinjuku, Ginza and Nakano, where condition and service history are listed.
- Watch out: Manufacturer warranty usually does not apply to used watches. Ask about the shop's own warranty before buying.
Japan's tax-free system changes on 1 November 2026
From 1 November 2026, visitors pay the full price including 10% consumption tax at the store. The tax is refunded after customs confirms at departure (airport or seaport) that the goods are leaving Japan, within 90 days of purchase. The minimum is ¥5,000 before tax per store. Refund methods and timing depend on the store, so ask at checkout and keep your receipts.
